How to Ensure Optimal Health for Your Children

How to Ensure Optimal Health for Your ChildrenIt is hard raising children in today’s fast-paced, fast-food culture. It is so much more convenient to feed your children processed food than it is to feed them a nutritious and balanced meal. Unfortunately, that is one of the reasons childhood obesity is on the rise. Today’s kids are not being taught the value of proper nutrition and it is having a serious effect on their health.

Fortunately, there are fast and effective ways to encourage your kids to eat right, which is the best way to ensure their optimal health.

Here are a few tips for ensuring optimal health for your children:

1.       Make Food Fun

If you have a fussy eater, you can turn trying new foods into an exciting game. I once let my kids draw on me with lipstick in exchange for eating their broccoli. Each piece they ate earned them another five seconds of drawing on my face, arms, and legs. They were giggling so hard at how silly I looked that they didn’t even realize how much broccoli they ate. You can also make a food wheel that has a mix of healthy snacks and sweet treats. They have to eat whatever food the wheel lands on.

2.        Sneak in the Good Stuff

There are plenty of ways to hide healthy foods inside of your kid’s favorite meals. You can add cooked cauliflower into their mashed potatoes, add mashed navy beans into a meatloaf, or use whole wheat pasta and lean turkey when you make spaghetti and meatballs. You can also mix a little ground flaxseed into almost anything you make to ensure kids are getting the omega-3 fatty acids that they need.

3.       Cook with Your Kids

Your children will be more likely to try new things if they are part of the preparation process. You may not want your kids to cut the vegetables if they are still young, but they can always help by stirring the pot or being the “taste tester.” Your children will be more interested in eating something when they helped you make it.

4.       Take Your Kids Shopping

Give your children the opportunity to pick out their own fruits and vegetables at the grocery store. Nature’s finest produce comes in a variety of vibrant colors and fun shapes. You should also let them pick out their cereals and snacks. Show them three or four healthy kinds that you approve of buying and let them pick out the one that looks the most appealing to them.

5.       Create Healthy Treats

You can achieve optimal health for your children by convincing them that banana slices in oatmeal or strawberries in yogurt are special treats instead of a healthy snack. They don’t need to know their delicious treats are really cleverly-disguised nutritious eats.

Children will always be fussy if you let them. Expose them to healthy habits when they are young and expand on them as they grow. Make sure to also give them vitamin supplements, so you can feel confident that you are providing them with everything they need for optimal health.

Children’s Health Recommendations – Dr Christine Wood:

To balance the nutrition gap in their meal they need quality supplement. Because kids can be erratic in their eating habits and because there are more toxins that a child must fight, quality supplementing is important. You should ensure your child is obtaining nutrients from three basic categories:

  1. Multivitamin – KidsTeens
  2. Calcium with vitamin D
  3. Omega-3 essential fatty acids

Kids today are overfed and undernourished and studies show they are often not receiving even the basic important nutrients in their diet. There is increasing concern about vitamin D deficiency with kids and many children are not getting enough calcium in their diets. Omega-3 fatty acids are of key importance and support brain development and health health. Look for pharmaceutical-grad products with guaranteed potency and quality.
