These tasty greens, as well as dark berries, like blueberries and blackberries are all great sources of lutein. Lutein is a type of carotenoid that protects against macular degeneration, which is the leading cause of vision loss in people over the age of 60.


Wear UV Protective Shades

Protecting your eyes from the sun’s harmful rays is another way to keep them healthy. You should always wear sunglasses with UVA and UVB protection when you are outdoors. Sunglasses will also decrease your chances of macular degeneration, plus it can prevent cataracts, and cancer of the eye.


Take a Break from the Computer

Too many people spend too much of their time staring at a computer screen. It is important that you give your eyes a break from the computer screen every 20 minutes. All it takes is a couple of minutes to rest and refocus your eyes, and then you can go right back to what you were doing.  The same rule should apply to a television screen.


Exercise Your Eyes

Yes, you can actually exercise your eyes. There are many focus tests and concentration exercises that can improve your vision. Always keep in mind that your eyes also have muscles that require regular exercise to keep them healthy.


Schedule Regular Eye Exams

It is important that you schedule an eye exam once a year for the very same reasons that you should regular see your doctor and dentist. You may not realize that there is a problem with your eyes and it is important that it is caught as early as possible. Eye exams are painless and easy, so there is no reason to wait for something to go wrong before getting one.


It is easier to enjoy life when you have healthy eyes and 20/20 vision. Keep your eyes healthy longer by eating leafy greens and dark berries, wearing sunglasses with UV protection, taking breaks from the computer every 20 minutes, exercising your eyes, and getting regular eye exams.
